Importance of Basement Waterproofing
Moisture accumulation in foundation and basements is a common problem. If left untreated, moisture accumulation can lead to flooding of basements and failure of foundation resulting in structural collapse. In extreme cases, the damages may amount to tens of thousands of dollars or even more.
Moisture accumulation is caused due to the absence of waterproofing of the substructure (foundation and basement) of your home or its deterioration with time. There are several homes in Oakville which have been there for decades. These homes have aging foundations with lots of cracks and fissures on them. Water can easily penetrate through these cracks and hence the foundations and basements of these homes are more susceptible to severe damages mentioned above.
These problems can be avoided in the first place by adequate waterproofing of your basement and foundation. Waterproofing retains the moisture and thus keeps the substructure of our homes dry.
We help you safeguard your property by making sure that your basements and foundations are properly waterproofed. We provide inspection, repair, maintenance and installation of waterproofed substructures.
If your basement is affected by moisture accumulation then we install a weeping tile system and waterproof its external part.
Weeping Tile System
The weeping tile installation is an effective way to reduce the moisture content of the soil which has already accumulated water in itself. The installation of this system is crucial for the proper waterproofing of a basement.
The system comprises of a hollow cylindrical pipe having pores or slits engraved on its surface. This pipe is installed near the affected foundation and is then enclosed by a layer of gravels. The size of gravels is kept greater than the slits so that the soil cannot block the slits. The gravel packing is then wrapped in a special cloth (garden/ landscaping cloth) to stop the soil from depositing in the spaces present in gravel. A sewer system or sump pump is also connected to the assembly.
When the moisture present in soil enters the weeping tile system, it passes through the layers and enters the hollow pipe. From here the water gets drained out via pump instead of accumulating in the soil and causing flooding in the basement. This setup can be easily installed at any location and works efficiently to drain excess moisture from the soil.
Majority of homes in Oakville that had been standing for decades uses an older weeping tile system employing clay pipes. These clay pipes are relatively weaker as compared to latest pipes. In most of the cases, they have already broken or collapsed. The only way to solve this problem is to replace the older system with a brand new system by ground excavation.
The majority of homes requiring new weeping tile system also require the waterproofing of their foundation. Since we have already excavated ground for the replacement hence this presents us the opportunity of waterproofing the foundation at the same time.
Foundation waterproofing can help us avoid many foundation and basement problems. It is done by excavating the foundation by using excavators, applying waterproofing on it and then backfilling it with the removed soil. The process of waterproofing is done in three steps as follows:
Firstly the exterior surface of foundation or external basement walls is cleaned and scrubbed by means of cleaning tools such as brushes or brooms. It is done to facilitate the process of finding the areas that are cracked or need to be repaired to stop moisture from accumulating into foundation and basement.
- Waterproof layer
Next, we apply a coat of waterproof layer to the exterior surface of substructures to stop water from entering and accumulating into foundation and basement. The commonly used waterproofing material for preventing dampness is Blue Seal or tar.
- Waterproof membrane
Lastly, we use a plastic sheet to cover the external surfaces of foundation and basement which are in contact with moist soil. The plastic sheet serves as a barrier between moisture and the substructure of the building allowing water drainage towards weeping tile. It also prevents the damage caused to substructure by its contact with the debris and contaminants present in the soil.
After waterproofing, we back fill the removed soil. If the soil is contaminated by debris, rocks or other materials then we permanently remove that soil and bring soil from another place. After we have backfilled the soil we level the ground and clean everything.
We make sure that neither yours nor your neighbour’s property gets damaged. We leave no mess behind and the only thing we leave is a perfectly waterproofed foundation and basement. That’s why we are the best waterproofing service in Oakville.

★★★★★ Andrew came and inspected my exterior drain. He was professional, pleasant and punctual. - Sewer Replacement
★★★★★ They were very professional, quick and best priced draining and plumbing company I called. They were honest with what they saw in my basement plumbing and did not push to upsell any additional work. They gave great advice as to what to keep an eye out regarding my old plumbing in the future and I appreciated the honesty. They replaced my sewage piping from the stack to the edge of my property (big job) and were in and out of my house in a few days and cleaned up very well!
- Backwater Valve Installation
★★★★★ Andy (the estimator) was terrific. Showed up exactly when he said he would and gave me (and my son) great advice on how to maintain the work they put in at our house. Crews were a little late on starting but stayed until the job was finished. What I thought was going to be a 2 - 3 day job (installation of a Back Flow Valve) was completed and inspected in 1 day! Will definitely use them again.
