Full Basement Waterproofing Services
In order to make the basement totally waterproof and free from flooding, the very first thing to do is to implement and inspect all the basement waterproofing methods. The most important part of this step is to take care of the foundations of the building so that there is no chance of seepage or flooding via them.
The trouble with flooded basements is that the damages caused by flooding can propagate very quickly and the financial aspect of the damages can mount up to tens of thousands of dollars. When the basement is flooded, the moisture starts to rust down the structural steel of the foundation which in turn causes the weakening of the foundation to a point where it can no longer take the load of the building and yield. To avoid any of these scenarios, it is important to make sure that the foundation is maintained in good health and is always waterproofed and protected.
Reading this may have made you paranoid about the health of the foundations of the building you are sitting in right now but you don’t have to worry. Absolute Drainage & Plumbing Thornhill is here to take the best care of your foundations and basements so that you can feel safe in your building.
Weeping Tile System
Weeping tiles are used to minimize the water that is present in the soil surrounding the building foundation. It is a crucial part of any system implied to waterproof the basement.
This is a simple and straightforward yet ingenious technique. In this arrangement, a porous pipe with slits is installed next to the foundation. To keep the pores open and working, the pipe is buried in gravel that has a grain size larger than the pores. To ensure that the soil does not penetrate into the gravel and choke the pores of the pipe a special type of cloth is installed between the gravel and the soil. This prevents any type of future problems with the whole arrangement.
Most of the older homes use a previous version of the same system which has a similar working principle but the pipes used are made of clay and over time most of them collapse making the whole system useless. To remedy this situation, the periphery of the foundation is stripped and the old system is replaced with a newer more efficient system having stronger pipes. This new weeping system is more durable and functional.
While this is done, we also waterproof the foundation because, in most of the establishments where the drainage system has worn out, the waterproofing has also given in to all the years of excessive interaction with the environment. This total makeover of the drainage and waterproofing will keep the building from having any problem for a long time.
Exterior Foundation Waterproofing
In this part of the waterproofing procedure, the soil surrounding the exterior of the foundations is excavated to the very foot of the foundation and the exterior is made totally waterproof by installing an impermeable plastic membrane.
Firstly, the exterior surface is scrubbed (cleaned) by brushes and brooms to find out the cracks and worn out areas of the substructure. After it, a coat of some damp proof material like black seal formula or tar is applied on the exterior walls followed by installation of a dimpled impermeable plastic sheet. This assembly creates a barrier for water to reach and deteriorate the substructure in future. Lastly, we fill the removed soil back to its place and level the ground.
We have all the equipment and expertise to get this process done seamlessly and the safety procedures are strictly followed to avoid any technical or legal complications in the future. ★★★★★ Experience 5-Star Customer Service from Absolute Draining & Plumbing
- Drain Repair
★★★★★ Andrew came and inspected my exterior drain. He was professional, pleasant and punctual. Using a drain camera he showed us what the issues were and made recommendations of how to remedy our issues. We made an appointment and the work was done on schedule and as per the quote he gave us. I would highly recommend their services. Very happy with their work.
- Sewer Replacement
★★★★★ They were very professional, quick and best priced draining and plumbing company I called. They were honest with what they saw in my basement plumbing and did not push to upsell any additional work. They gave great advice as to what to keep an eye out regarding my old plumbing in the future and I appreciated the honesty. They replaced my sewage piping from the stack to the edge of my property (big job) and were in and out of my house in a few days and cleaned up very well!
- Backwater Valve Installation
★★★★★ Andy (the estimator) was terrific. Showed up exactly when he said he would and gave me (and my son) great advice on how to maintain the work they put in at our house. Crews were a little late on starting but stayed until the job was finished. What I thought was going to be a 2 - 3 day job (installation of a Back Flow Valve) was completed and inspected in 1 day! Will definitely use them again.
